SFPD Arrest Stabbing Suspect 19-002
On Wednesday January 2nd , 2019 at approximately 11:40 AM, San Francisco Police officers responded to a report of a person down at the intersection of Ellis Street and Leavenworth Street. The officers located a 61 year - old woman suffering from a stab wound to the head. San Francisco Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the victim to a hospital , where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
Witnesses at the scene were able to provide responding officers with a suspect and vehicle description . SFPD officers located a second , 50 year - old victim at the hospital . That victim suffered a non - life threatening stab wound at the hands of the suspect. The SFPD Homicide Detail was notified and began an investigation.
Twenty minutes after the homicide, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the suspect description on the unit block of Brookdale Avenue and detained the 43 year - old female driver. While questioning the driver, 49 year - old San Francisco resident Arthur Finch emerged from a nearby residence. Officers noted that Finch matched the physical and clothing description of the homicide suspect and detained him without incident.
SFPD’s investigation determined that Finch was involved in the stabbing death of the 61 y ear - old woman , the stabbing of the 50 year - old male and a domestic violence - related assault on the female driver stopped by police. Based on information obtained in the investigation, the 61 year - old woman and the 50 year - old male victim had attempted to come to the aid of the domestic violence victim who was being assaulted by Finch.
Finch was book ed into San Francisco County J ail for murder, attempted murder, felony domestic violence, elder abuse, pos session and use of a dangerous weapon, mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon . Finch was also booked for being a parole e at large with a no bail warrant.
