SFPD Headquarters
Welcome to the voter approved Public Safety Building and Police Headquarters which provides a replacement facility for the SFPD Headquarters and the Southern District Police Station, previously located at the Hall of Justice at 850 Bryant Street. The Public Safety Building provides the necessary structural and operational resiliency to enable police leadership to promptly and properly coordinate public safety services in the city for decades to come.
The new Public Safety Campus is a state-of-the-art facility in Mission Bay which has incorporated not only the latest in law enforcement amenities but it is a LEED building, which means it met rigorous standards for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. From its seismically advanced structure to the state-of-the-art technology, Headquarters will serve our City well each and every day. More importantly, it will enable police to better respond and coordinate public safety services during major events and/or critical incidents.
The Police Headquarters consists of approximately 430 Department personnel. The lobby includes a memorial to our fallen officers, entitled the Spiral of Gratitude, designed by New York-based artist, Shimon Attie. This memorial combines the elements of glass, sky, and light, together with the written word to create an immersive memorial in the building’s lobby. Additionally, San Francisco-based artist, Paul Kos, designed the First Responder Plaza, which incorporates three unique icons; a star, bell and conifer to form an inviting, meaningful space where the public can sit and enjoy outdoors. And finally, there is the stately re-creation of the marble engraved wall currently in the lobby of the Hall with each and every name of those officers from the San Francisco Police Department who made the ultimate sacrifice for our City.
Services at the Police Headquarters and Public Safety Building
Southern District Police Station
The Southern District Police Station plays a critical role in responding to the public safety needs of San Francisco residents. This station deploys the men and women working the front line – typically and especially after a major catastrophic event. As first responders, they maintain order during difficult situations and work cooperatively with other first responders, including the Fire Department and the Office of Chief Medical Examiner. The Public Safety Building also contains Fire Station No. 4, the Arson Task Force and a Community Room to serve the growing Mission Bay neighborhood, enhancing its response capability.
