SFPD Officers Honored by San Francisco Police Commission
On October 12, 2016 the San Francisco Police Commission honored San Francisco Police officers working to fight child pornography and aid people suffering mental health crises.
The seven-member Police Commission presented the SFPD’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit with a Unit Citation Certificate. The ICAC Unit investigates individuals who exploit children on the internet through the production, distribution, and possession of child pornography, sexual extortion, and online sexual enticement. Since 2013, ICAC investigators have tirelessly investigated more than 400 cases which have led to the arrest of 110 suspects for serious child exploitation charges. The impact of SFPD’s ICAC investigations span from San Francisco to around the globe. The ICAC Unit is a member of the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which facilitates collaboration between local, federal and international law enforcement agencies.
The Police Commission also honored Officer JoAnn Walker with a Certificate of Merit and Appreciation. Officer Walker has volunteered with the Crisis Support Services of Alameda County’s crisis and suicide prevention line for approximately six years, offering assistance and comfort to people undergoing mental health crises. Officer Walker is a 21-year SFPD veteran and is currently assigned to SFPD’s Park Station. On October 6, 2016, Officer Walker was one of only 11 law enforcement agents nationwide presented with the Award for Distinguished Service in Community Policing by United States Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
