SFPD Make Arrest in the Death of Two Year Old

At approximately 10:30pm last Friday night, a two year old female child was killed in the crosswalk on Mission Street between 4th and 5th Streets when she was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Mission Street. The San Francisco Police Department's investigation into this tragic incident has uncovered evidence that lead to the arrest today of the child's aunt who was responsible for the child's safety at the time of the collision, for felony child endangement.

The two year old female was in the care of her aunt when the pair attempted to cross Mission Street against the signal. The pedestrian signal at this location was, and remains, in working order. The aunt walked the female child into the middle of the street, while the female child's twin brother remained on the sidewalk. The aunt left the female child in the middle of the street to return to the sidewalk to retrieve the twin brother. It was at this time, that the female child was struck and killed by the (still outstanding) vehicle traveling on Mission Street with the green light.

Lorysha Gage, 25 years old, a San Francisco resident, was booked at the San Francisco County jail. There is no booking photo available, as there are identification matters pending.

This is still an open and active investigation. We continue to ask for the public's help in identifying the vehicle that struck and killed this child. Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 415-575-4444.
