SFPD Richmond District Police Officers Spearhead Campaign to Raise Money for School Supplies
Fundraising for the school supplies, after school sports and activities equipment began in July of 2016 when San Francisco Police Sergeant Matt Friedman stopped in at the community center to say hello. Sergeant Friedman learned that many children in the community needed help in obtaining school supplies. “… I realized that if kids are prepared for school on the very first day with appropriate school supplies and proper tools to help them learn, then school will not seem so hard and their chances for success will hopefully be that much easier” – said Sgt. Friedman.
An online fundraising effort was started and in less than a week, donors from as far away as New York and Philadelphia and as close by as the Richmond District (including officers assigned to Richmond Station) contributed over $3,000.00.
