Bayview Home Invasion Leads to Officer Involved Shooting Update: Town Hall Meeting (17-078(b))

On Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 6:00 PM, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott held a town hall meeting at the Bayview Opera House to update the community on the May 21st officer involved shooting that took place on the 2100 block of Quesada Avenue. Joining Chief Scott were Michael Redmond, Deputy Chief of Field Operations and Captain Raj Vaswani, Commanding Officer of Bayview Station. Deputy Chief Redmond provided an update on the investigation which included the display of several photographs. These photographs consisted of a Google map image of the location of the incident (2100 block of Quesada Avenue) and several photos depicting bullet holes in a wooden fence in the backyard of the victim’s residence. Three uniformed San Francisco police officers were standing on the opposite side of that fence when the suspects emerged from the victim’s residence. At least one suspect opened fire on the officers, striking the fence. One SFPD officer returned fire.

No injuries were reported as a result of the gunshots. Three video clips were also played. Those clips were taken from body worn camera (BWC) footage from Officer Dack Thompson, who discharged his firearm; and BWC footage from two other officers who were in the backyard at the time of the incident.
