SFPD Make Arrest in November 22nd Fatal Hit and Run Collision

San Francisco Police have made an arrest in the November 22, 2015 fatal collision that occurred on San Jose Avenue between Randall Monterey exit in the Ingleside District. In this incident, the suspect driver fled the scene after colliding with the victim who was on a scooter. The victim, a 60 year old San Francisco resident succumbed to life-threatening injuries. Officers responded to the scene and an investigation ensued.

Through the course of their investigation, the San Francisco Police Department Traffic Collision Investigations Unit was able to identify the driver of the silver-colored Mercedes used in the fatal collision. A second suspect was also discovered to be involved as a getaway driver of a separate vehicle who picked up the driver a short distance from the scene of the crime.

After an extensive investigation, traffic Investigators developed probable cause to arrest Brendan Wallace, 32, of Broadmoor, CA and Heinz Raino Cortado, 34, of Broadmoor. On April 8, 2016, Cortado surrendered to SFPD investigators at the Broadmoor Police Station and Wallace was taken into custody at his place of employment in Mountain View, Ca.  Both were taken into custody without incident and booked at San Francisco County Jail. Wallace was booked on vehicular manslaughter, felony hit & run and providing false information to peace officers. Cortado was booked on felony accessory to the hit & run and providing false information to peace officers.

Although an arrest has been made, this incident is still under investigation by the SFPD Traffic Collision Investigation Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt.
