Bayview District Officer Involved Shooting

On May 19, 2016 at approximately 9:45 AM, two uniformed San Francisco Police Officers driving a marked SFPD patrol car were conducting a stolen vehicle recovery operation in the Bayview District. During the operation, these officers came across a stolen sedan that was parked and occupied by an adult female driver. The officers contacted the suspect who suddenly fled in the vehicle. While fleeing the suspect struck a parked truck near the dead-end of Elmira Street. While the officers were trying to take the suspect into custody, she moved the vehicle in a forward and backward direction. At some point in the engagement, one officer fired one shot striking the suspect. Officers rendered aid, performed CPR and summoned an ambulance.  San Francisco Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the suspect to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The involved members will be placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.

This is an active and ongoing investigation in its early stages. Officer involved shootings are investigated by the SFPD Homicide Division, SFPD Internal Affairs Division, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, the San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Officer and the Office of Citizen Complaints. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the SFPD Anonymous Tip Line (415) 575-4444 or Text-a Tip411 and begin the message with SFPD.
