SFPD Officer Shot Update

This Morning, San Francisco Police Department Interim Chief Toney Chaplin visited with our officer and his family at the hospital. Our officer remains in critical, but stable condition after receiving a gunshot wound to the head. He continues to make progress thanks to the world class care of the medical professionals at San Francisco General Hospital.

The officer and his family are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support from members of the public as well as Mayor Ed Lee, the Board of Supervisors and the Police Commission. At this time, the officer’s family requests privacy to focus on a successful recovery.

The suspect in the incident also remains in critical condition and is receiving care at San Francisco General Hospital. The suspect’s family has been able to visit with him and has been briefed on the investigation.

At 3:16 PM, October 16th 2016, we were notified by San Francisco General Hospital that the suspect in this incident had passed due to his injuries. The Medical Examiner has been notified and has begun their separate investigation and duties.

This remains an open and active investigation. More details will be made available as the investigation unfolds.
