Bayview Home Invasion Leads to Officer Involved Shooting Update: Officer Identified (17-078(a))
It is department policy to release the name(s) of the officer(s) directly involved in a shooting within ten days of the incident. On May 21, 2017 at approximately 11:00 PM, uniformed SFPD officers responded to a reported home invasion at a residence on the 2100 block of Quesada Avenue (see SFPD News Release 17-078). Upon arrival, the officers established a perimeter around the premise. As the officers were preparing to search the residence, several suspects exited the rear of the building. At least one suspect fired at the uniformed officers. Officer Dack Thompson #1292 returned fire with his Department issued firearm. Officer Thompson, a 12 year member of the Department, is assigned to the Field Operations Bureau. The suspects fled over fences and through adjacent backyards. Active and ongoing investigations are being conducted by the San Francisco Police Department’s Homicide Detail, the SFPD Internal Affairs Division, and the San Francisco District Attorney’s Independent Investigations Bureau.
