Bayview Station Officers Make Arrest in Aggravated Assault Hate Crime (17-129)

On August 31, 2017 at approximately 8:20 AM, Officers from Bayview Police Station responded to 3rd Street and Palou regarding a woman being pushed off of a Muni platform. Upon arrival, they found the victim, an 81 year-old female, San Francisco resident seated near-by. The victim suffered a head wound and was using a napkin to control the bleeding. Witnesses at the scene provided a suspect description and direction of escape. Witnesses also told officers that the suspect pushed the victim from the platform causing her to fall onto the roadway, hitting her head on the pavement.

Within minutes, a Bayivew officer assigned to a foot beat located and detained a person matching the suspect description at 3rd Street and Quesada Avenue. Through the course of an investigation, the victim and a witness positively identified the detained person as the suspect who had pushed the victim from the Muni platform.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment and was listed in non-life threatening status. The suspect, 51 year-old San Francisco resident Jacqueline Miller was booked at San Francisco County Jail for aggravated assault and elder abuse, both felonies. Due to the fact that Miller made statements that she assaulted the victim because of her ethnicity a hate crime enhancement was also charged. Miller’s booking photo accompanies this news release.
