SFPD Makes Several Auto Burglary Arrests Throughout the City 18-058
On Monday April 2nd, 2018 at 1:45 AM, Central District police officers were dispatched to the area of Grant Street and Filbert Street regarding subjects breaking into vehicles. Dispatch advised that the subjects had fled the area and gave a description of their vehicle. While enroute to the call, a victim contacted dispatch and said that he located the suspect vehicle at Montgomery Street and Francisco Street. Officers responded to the scene and witnessed one of the suspects burglarizing another vehicle on the 1800 block of Kearny Street. Officers determined that four suspects were involved in the burglaries and were able to take them into custody.

Tyler McKinney, a 26 year-old Berkeley resident, Christopher Wise, a 28 year-old Sacramento resident, Robert Warren a 23 year-old San Francisco resident and a 16 year-old juvenile male suspect were all booked on two counts of burglary and one count of conspiracy each.

On Tuesday April 3rd, 2018 at 11:05 PM, Mission Station officers were patrolling the area of Church Street and 20th Street when they observed a vehicle driving with dealer plates only. When the officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the vehicle sped off. Officers did not pursue the vehicle but the suspect’s car was involved in a traffic collision at the corner of 25th Street and Church Street. Officers searched for the suspect and spoke to a witness who said that he heard someone jump over his backyard fence on the 3800 block of 25th Street. Officers responded to the backyard and arrested Dominic Spears, an 18 year-old transient.
Spears was booked at the San Francisco County Jail on one count of theft of vehicle, one count of possession of stolen property, one count reckless evading, one count failing to stop and exchange information at an accident, one count of failure to have a valid driving license while driving, one count of resisting arrest and one count of driving without a license plate.

On Wednesday April 4th, 2018 at approximately 8:24 PM, Southern District plainclothes officers were conducting surveillance on the area of the 1700 block of Alameda Street. The officers witnessed a car double park near another vehicle. A male who was later identified as Troy Savoy, a 20 year-old San Francisco resident, exited the car and began casing another vehicle. Savoy then returned to the driver’s seat of his car and left the scene. Moments later Savoy returned in the vehicle, exited and approached the vehicle that he was casing. Savoy broke the window and grabbed a backpack from inside the victim’s vehicle. Officers moved in to arrest Savoy. Savoy attempted to flee and crashed his vehicle into a parked car. Savoy and another passenger, who was later identified as Earl Jihad, an 18 year-old Pleasant Hill resident attempted to flee on foot but were quickly taken into custody.
Savoy was booked at San Francisco County Jail on one count of 2nd degree burglary, two counts of possession of stolen property, one count of conspiracy, one count of resisting arrest, as well as several vehicle code violations.

On Thursday April 5th, 2018 at 9:32 PM, plainclothes officers observed a suspect who was later identified as Manuel Mills, a 30 year-old Richmond resident, casing vehicles near the corner of 10th Street and Harrison Street. The suspect entered the front passenger seat of a car and drove away. Mills exited the vehicle again and changed seats with the driver who was later identified as Taj Williams, a 41 year-old Alameda resident. Mills drove the car to Division Street just west of King Street. Williams exited the vehicle and broke the rear window of a parked car. Officers attempted to arrest both subjects but Williams entered the vehicle and Mills reversed his car and crashed into a vehicle that was stopped in traffic. Officers placed both men under arrest and located another subject in the backseat, Savannah Jacobs, a 25 year-old female Richmond resident who was also placed under arrest. Officers located and seized burglary tools from the vehicle.

On Saturday April 7th, 2018 at approximately 3:30 PM, officers were dispatched to 5th Street and Townsend Street regarding a bicycle being stolen out of a vehicle. Upon their arrival, officers were able to speak with the witness on scene and review surveillance footage of the incident. Officers were able to identify the suspect as Troy Hawthorne, a 34 year-old transient. The police were able to locate Hawthorne at 4th Street and Harrison Street in a tent. The stolen bike was recovered and Hawthorne was placed under arrest.
Hawthorne was booked at San Francisco County Jail on one count of burglary, one count of conspiracy, one count of possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools.

These arrest are an example of the department’s commitment to combat auto burglaries through the strategic deployment of resources, increased responsiveness and expanded deployment of both patrol and undercover officers.
