Annual Lunar New Year Crime Prevention and Public Safety Press Conference 001-23

San Francisco SAFE (Safety Awareness for Everyone), public safety officials, and community partners will hold a Lunar New Year public safety news conference and merchant walk Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Historic Chinatown Dragon Gate (located at Grant and Bush Streets) in San Francisco in advance of Chinese Year of the Rabbit celebrations. Rabbits are believed to represent quiet confidence, earnestness, vigilance, and ingenuity and SF SAFE, in coordination with community partners and public safety officials will channel this spirit for an auspicious and safe 2023.

SF SAFE’s team, including Executive Director Kyra Worthy, will be joined by event speakers including Mayor London Breed, Senator Scott Wiener, SFPD Chief William “Bill” Scott, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, City Attorney David Chiu, Board President Aaron Peskin, Supervisor Shamann Walton, City Manager Carmen Chu, Central Station Acting Captain Douglas Farmer, President, and Chinese Chamber of Commerce Donald Luu.

The 26th annual citywide initiative will educate Asian merchants and Lunar New Year celebrants on how to prevent extortion, burglary, and robbery during the festive season. Find out more from the SFPD about staying safe during Lunar New Year Festivities here.
