San Francisco Police Department Arrests Attempted Homicide and Arson Suspect 22-124

On August 7, 2022, at approximately 8:51 a.m., San Francisco Police Officers assigned to Mission Station responded to Shotwell and 18th Streets for a fire investigation. Officers arrived on scene and observed personnel from the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) on scene who had extinguished a fire on the sidewalk. At the scene, officers spoke with the 27-year-old female victim who stated that she had an argument with a male suspect and watched as he poured an unknown liquid inside her tent which developed into a fire.  The victim told officers her tent was occupied by a second victim, a 25-year-old male, who suffered severe burns from the fire and was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction as the female victim helped extinguish the flames on her friend.

The investigation was led by the SFPD Special Victim’s Unit (SVU). Investigators developed information that identified the suspect as 27-year-old Lawrence Harmon of San Francisco. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Harmon. On Monday, September 5, 2022, SFPD SVU Investigators located Harmon in the area of 13th and Folsom Streets and took him into custody without incident. Harmon was transported to the San Francisco County Jail where he was booked on the following charges: attempted homicide (664/187 PC), two counts court order violation (166(a)(4) PC), arson creating great bodily injury (451(a) PC) and arson to structure (455(a) PC), and a local warrant.

While an arrest has been made, this remains an open and active investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.
