San Francisco Police Arrest Serial Robbery Suspect (Updated Charges) 21-042(a)
On February 18, 2021 at approximately 5:05 PM, San Francisco Police Officers from Mission Station responded to a report of an armed robbery at a hardware store on the 2000 block of Market Street.
The victims told officers that the suspect entered the business, demanded money, and displayed a handgun. During the interaction, the suspect put the gun away and brandished a collapsible baton. When one of the victims yelled out for another employee to help, the suspect fled the store.
After the incident, a crime alert containing an image of the suspect was circulated to SFPD officers. An investigator saw the crime alert for the robbery and realized the subject was the suspect wanted in connection with the grand theft of a diamond ring from a pawnshop on the 2400 block of Mission Street on October 29, 2020.
At approximately 6:50 PM, just under two hours after the hardware store robbery, members of the Northern Station Street Crimes Unit observed a man matching the suspect description on the 800 block of Eddy Street. The officers detained the subject at Van Ness Avenue and Willow Street.
The subject was identified as the robbery suspect from the hardware store. Officers located and seized a replica semiautomatic firearm from his waistband, and a collapsible baton from his pant pocket. Other evidence was also seized.
Necho Goins, age 26 of San Francisco was booked on the following charges: Attempted Robbery (664/211 PC), Brandishing a Deadly Weapon, Other than Firearm (417(a)(1) PC), Possession of a Burglary Tool (466 PC), Unlawful Possession of a Baton (22210 PC), Brandishing an Imitation Firearm in a Public Place (20170(a) PC), and an arrest warrant for the theft of the ring from the pawn shop, Violation: 487(a) PC, Bail $5,000.
SFPD Robbery Detail Investigators determined that Goins committed eight additional reported robberies and theft incidents before his arrest on February 18, 2021.
On January 7, 2021 at approximately 1:50 PM Goins entered a sports supply store on the 500 block of Octavia Street with a scooter and stated that he was looking to purchase a new scooter. The employee assisted Goins in showing a scooter in which he was interested. As the employee went to a different area Goins exited the store on the new scooter and left the original scooter he entered with.
On January 15, 2021 at approximately 2:20 PM Goins entered a retail store on the 100 block of Post Street. Goins entered the store and grabbed several purses from the store display. An employee attempted to stop Goins, but was only able to recover two of the purses from Goins before he fled the scene on an electric scooter with the stolen merchandise.
On February 3, 2021 at approximately 11:56 AM Goins entered a pharmacy on the 400 block of Powell Street with a scooter and attempted to steal items from the store. A store employee attempted to stop Goins from leaving with the items. Goins threw the unpurchased items at the employee and brandished a handgun. Goins exited the store and rode away on the scooter on Powell Street.
On February 3, 2021 at approximately 3:00 PM Goins entered at an electronics store on the 500 block of Hayes Street with a scooter, brandished a handgun, and took laptops from the store display. Goins exited the store and fled the scene on the scooter in an unknown direction.
On February 5, 2021 at approximately 3:00 PM Goins entered a mobile phone store on the 200 block of Turk Street with a scooter. Goins approached a store employee and demanded money from the store’s cash register while brandishing a handgun. The employee complied and Goins fled the scene on the scooter.
On February 6, 2021 at approximately 4:50 PM Goins entered a sports supply store on the 500 block of Octavia Street and began removing security cables from the store’s electric scooters. An employee attempted to stop Goins, but Goins brandished a handgun, and fled the scene on the stolen scooter.
On February 11, 2021 at approximately 6:35 PM Goins entered a mobile phone store on the 2800 block of Mission Street and brandished a handgun at an employee. The employee opened the cash register and handed over the cash to Goins who fled the scene on a scooter.
On February 15, 2021 at approximately 6:05 PM Goins entered a video game store on the 2600 block of Mission Street with a scooter. Goins approached the employee and brandished a handgun and demanded money. The employee opened the cash register and Goins removed the cash from the tray. Goins fled the scene on the scooter.
For the additional incidents Goins was booked for the following charges.
