On January 26, 2021 at approximately 5:53 PM, San Francisco Police officers assigned to Ingleside Police Station, responded to the 400 block of Cortland Avenue regarding an armed carjacking.

The victim, a 32-year-old female, San Francisco resident told officers that she was sitting in her Subaru SUV when a male suspect opened the car door and demanded her car keys. A second suspect appeared and attempted to forcefully pull the victim out of the car, but his effort was thwarted as she was wearing a seatbelt. The victim noted that both suspects were armed with handguns. The victim removed the seatbelt and exited the car. One of the suspects demanded, then forcefully took the victim’s cell phone from her hand. Both suspects fled in her vehicle.

Officers located surveillance video that included images of a suspect vehicle, a silver Infinity. Information regarding the suspects, suspect vehicle and the carjacked Subaru was broadcasted on police radio channels.

At approximately 6:09 PM, dispatchers at the Department of Emergency Management broadcast information regarding a hit and run collision on the unit block of Navy Road involving the carjacked Subaru. Responding officers from Bayview Station located three subjects in close proximity to the collision scene. The subjects partially matched the suspect description from the carjacking. As the officers approached them, they attempted to walk away.

Officers detained 19-year-old Milan Ward of Brentwood, California, a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old male, both from San Francisco.

During their investigation, officers seized a loaded “Glock” style semi-automatic pistol from Ward. The victim’s keys were seized from one of the juveniles. A second firearm, a loaded Highpoint 9mm pistol and a cell phone were also found nearby.

Through a computer records check, the officers determined that the Highpoint pistol was reported stolen from Shasta County.

The upper portion of the “Glock” style firearm stamped with a serial number; however, the lower receiver did not contain a serial number.

The silver Infinity used by the suspects (and registered to Ward) was located nearby on the unit block of Navy Road. The vehicle was later towed and impounded as part of the investigation.

Officers also determined that one of the juvenile subjects was also wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred on December 30, 2020 near Fillmore and McAllister Streets. In that incident, a male suspect snatched a cell phone from 22-year-old male, San Mateo resident while he was onboard a Muni bus. The victim saw three suspects running off the bus and gave chase until one of the suspects reached into his waistband, simulating that he had a gun. The victim told investigating officers that he was scared that the suspects had a weapon and let them escape.

Milan Ward was booked into the San Francisco County Jail on the charges of carjacking (215(a) PC), robbery (211 PC, 2nd Degree), conspiracy (182(a) (1) PC), unregistered owner in possession of a firearm (25850(c)(6) PC), possession of an undetectable firearm (24610 PC), carrying an unregistered and loaded firearm (25400(a)(6) PC), carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony (25800(a) PC), carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle (25850(a) PC), carrying a concealed firearm (25400(a)(2) PC), prohibited person carrying a concealed firearm (25400(a)(4) PC), and hit and run (20002(a) VC).
