San Francisco Police Make Arrests in Ingleside and Mission Home Burglaries and Mission Homicide and Attempted Homicide

On Thursday December 3, 2020 at approximately 12:03 AM, San Francisco Police officers from Ingleside Station responded to the 1600 block of Sanchez Street for a report of multiple suspects breaking into a garage. While officers were responding, the 9-1-1 caller witness advised dispatch that the suspects took several items from the garage. The witness observed three suspects flee on foot. Soon after the suspects fled on foot, a white van and dark sedan drove up and stopped near the garage. The witness said that five subjects exited both vehicles. The witness recognized one of the suspects that exited the van as the same as one of the suspects who had just broken into the garage.

The sedan was observed driving away as officers arrived. Officers observed three suspects attempt to flee the area on foot. Officers located two of the suspects on the 400 block of 29th Street and one suspect on the 1500 block of Sanchez Street. All three suspects were taken into custody without incident. The suspects were later identified as 24 year-old Emerson Martinez, 29 year-old Jose Rodriguez aka “Antonio Mendoza” and
28 year-old Ernesto Herrera, all residents of San Francisco. Upon their arrest officers located a black BB gun on Herrera and a semi-automatic handgun on Rodriguez.

Officers conducted a vehicle inquiry on the van which revealed that it was reported stolen. Officers searched the van and located several items that were later determined to have been taken from the garage on Sanchez Street.

Martinez, Rodriguez and Herrera were transported to San Francisco County Jail and booked on charges of burglary, receiving stolen property, conspiracy, and possession of burglary tools. Additionally, Rodriguez was booked on firearms possession charges and a homicide warrant out of San Francisco.

Rodriguez was wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred in San Francisco’s Mission District. On September 4, 2020 at approximately 12:15 PM, San Francisco Police officers from Mission Station responded to the 100 block of Julian Avenue for a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival officers located a 27 year-old female victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid to the victim and summoned medical personnel. Despite their efforts the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

Investigators from the SFPD Night Investigations Unit identified Rodriguez as the suspect wanted for an attempted murder that took place in San Francisco’s Mission District. On October 27, 2020 at approximately 1:44 AM, a 29 year-old male victim entered a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim told investigators that the shooting occurred on the 1700 block of Mariposa Street. Through the course of the investigation Rodriguez was identified as the shooter in the incident.

Investigators from the SFPD Burglary Unit developed information that connected Martinez and Rodriguez to a hot prowl burglary that occurred in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights Neighborhood. On Wednesday November 11, 2020 at approximately 4:06 AM, San Francisco Police officers from Ingleside Station responded to the 600 block of Peralta Avenue for a report of a burglary. The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival. When
officers met with the victims, they said that they were woken up when their dog began barking. The victims went to check on the dog and observed their front door open. The victims and officers reviewed video surveillance footage of the incident. The video showed the suspects leaving the victims’ garage with a bicycle. The video also shows the one of the suspects holding a firearm. In addition to the bicycle being stolen the suspects also took a laptop computer.

While in custody at the San Francisco County Jail Rodriguez was charged with burglary, conspiracy, and possession of a firearm in connection to the burglary on Peralta Avenue. 

Rodriguez was also charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and multiple firearms charges in connection with the shooting that occurred on Mariposa Street. Martinez was charged with burglary, conspiracy and committing a felony while on own recognizance or bail in connection with the burglary on Peralta Avenue.
