San Francisco Police Arrest MUNI Assault Suspect 20-074

On Saturday, July 25, 2020, at approximately 10:35 AM, officers were dispatched to Market Street and Drumm Street regarding a physical altercation on a MUNI bus. Officers arrived on scene and met with an adult male victim who was suffering from physical trauma. Officers summoned medics to the scene and transported the victim for non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was sitting down in the MUNI bus when he had an unprovoked argument with a male. During the argument, the male spat on the victim’s face and punched the victim multiple times, which caused fractures to the victim’s face. During the assault, the victim grabbed the suspect’s hair which stopped the attack. The suspect exited the bus and fled on another MUNI bus that left the scene. Officers searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him.

The investigation recovered video surveillance from the MUNI bus that captured the assault. During the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified as Jacob Burton, a 22-year-old male. On Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at approximately 9:16 AM an SFPD on-duty officer located Burton on the unit block of Turk Street and placed him under arrest. Jacob was booked for assault with a deadly weapon (245(a)(1) PC), aggravated battery causing serious injury (243(d) PC), and inflicting great bodily injury (12022.7(a) PC).

While an arrest has been made, this remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD 24 Hour Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD.
