San Francisco Police Make Arrest in SOMA Homicide 19-108
On August 18, 2019 at approximately 6:49PM, San Francisco Police officers assigned to Tenderloin Station responded to a report of an assault at 5th and Stevenson Streets.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim, 48 year-old Tung Tran, laying on the ground unconscious. Tran was transported to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFGH).
Video from a nearby surveillance camera revealed that Tran had been struck in the head and fell to the ground losing consciousness. Officers from Tenderloin Station and the SFPD Night Investigations Unit (NIU) immediately began an investigation. The suspect’s image was shared with the public via social media and several SFPD officers recognized the suspect as 45 year-old Antwan Monroe of San Francisco. A crime alert bulletin was issued within the Department and Tenderloin Station officers initiated a search for Monroe.
Unfortunately, Tran died from his injuries on Tuesday, August 20th. Tenderloin Station officers located Antwan Monroe on the 1000 block of Mission Street later that same day. He was arrested for homicide and booked at San Francisco County Jail. Due to pending identification matters a booking photo of Monroe is not being released at this time.
