SFPD Make Arrests in Saturday Night Shooting On Bay Street 19-034
On Sunday, March 24, 2019 at approximately 2:06AM, officers from San Francisco’s Central Police Station responded to the 400 block of Bay Street for a report of a shooting. Officers located a male and a female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers rendered medical aid until members from the San Francisco Fire Department arrived on scene. The male victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The female victim, a 26 year -old San Francisco resident, was transported with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to her leg. The San Francisco Police Department Night Investigations Unit commenced an investigation.
At approximately 6:30AM, three male subjects walked into SFPD’s Southern Station and told investigators that they were involved in the incident on Bay Street. Following interviews, investigators determined that the male shooting victim, 21 year-old Jorge Islas-Garcia of Oakley and another male, later identified as 20 year -old Shane O’Roark of San Fran cisco, robbed the three victims at gunpoint. The three victims watched Islas-Garcia and O’Roark approach another group and believed that they were getting ready to rob people in that group . When the victims attempted to warn the other group of the impending robbery, Islas-Garcia opened fire on the three victims. One of the victims, who had access to a firearm, returned fire, striking Islas-Garcia
On Sunday March 24, 2019 at approximately 8:30PM, SFPD investigators arrested O’Roark at Central Police Station. O’Roark was booked into County Jail on three counts of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon (firearm), attempted murder, possession of a concealed firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm and conspiracy.
Islas-Garcia was booked in absentia on three counts of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon (firearm), attempted murder, possession of a concealed firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm and conspiracy.
Due to pending identification matters, booking photos of Islas-Garcia and O’Roark are not being released at this time.
