SFPD Joins Mayor Breed and Citywide Partners to Distribute More Than 400 Christmas Trees to San Francisco Families 18-168

Mayor’s Office, City Departments, and Local Nonprofits host 2nd Annual Christmas Tree Giveaway in Bayview-Hunters Point and Western Addition

Mayor London N. Breed, the San Francisco Police Department and San Francisco Housing Authority are teaming up with community partners this holiday season to share hope and joy in Bayview-Hunters Point and the Western Addition by providing more than 400 trees to San Francisco families.

“The holiday season is about spending time with those you love and helping others in your community,” said Mayor Breed. “I want to thank our City departments and community partners for continuing this great tradition and giving back so everyone can enjoy the holidays.”

“The men and women of SFPD are committed to collaborating with our community partners to improve the quality of life for everyone in our City,” said SFPD Chief William Scott. “When we work together, we can provide a bit more joy for everyone this holiday season. We’re proud to be part of this tradition and give back to the communities we serve.”

The SFHA worked with the Guardsmen, a Bay Area-based nonprofit organization which works to improve the lives of at-risk youth, to provide trees to residents.

“The San Francisco Housing Authority is grateful to the San Francisco Police Department, the Guardsmen, A. Philip Randolph Institute, the Mayor's Office, the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, and the many community partners who each year make it possible for the families living in HOPE SF, RAD and Public Housing Developments to have an opportunity for a fresh, best-you-can-get-in-the-City tree from the Guardsmen,” said SFHA Acting Executive Director Barbara Smith.

"The Guardsmen are excited to once again partner with the San Francisco Police Department, Mayor's Office and the San Francisco Housing Authority to bring holiday cheer to families in need." said Greg Varni, President of The Guardsmen. "For over 70 years, The Guardsmen have been working to improve the lives of at-risk youth in the Bay Area through year-round fundraising capped by our annual Christmas tree lot. The Christmas Tree Donation program exemplifies our mission of helping those less fortunate and we look forward to spreading extra holiday cheer this year."

The first tree giveaway will take place Sunday, December 16 2018 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at “Now Hunters Point,” located at 201 Jennings Street.   The Christmas tree giveaway in Western Addition will take place Monday, December 17 from 2:30PM to 5:30PM at the mini park across the street from Northern Station, located at 1125 Fillmore Street.
