Last Night's Officer Involved Shooting Recap

Yesterday at approximately 8:50 PM, officers in the Bayview district made contact with the driver of a vehicle. Upon contact, they noticed what appeared to be contraband or a weapon in the passenger compartment. The driver fled in the vehicle and the officers pursued.

The pursuit went onto interstate 280 and through various police districts in the City (Bayview, Ingleside, Taraval, Park). At northbound 19th south of Taraval, officers attempted to contact the driver. The driver maneuvered the vehicle to evade police and struck an officer. Another officer discharged his firearm at the suspect, believing the suspect was attempting to cause serious bodily injury to him and the another officer. The suspect was not struck by the round discharged by the officer, and continued evading police. The officers continued their pursuit of the suspect. In the area of SFPD's Park Police Station near Golden Gate Park, the suspect drove the vehicle over the sidewalk, into a cul-de-sac, and into a concrete barrier. The suspect foot bailed and there was a short foot pursuit. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to SFGH for non-life threatening injuries. The officer that was injured was taken to SFGH, treated and released.

During the pursuit, the suspect caused or was involved in multiple traffic collisions. The suspect was driving a rental vehicle with Nevada plates. This is still an active investigation. SFPD's homicide and crime scene unit are still on scene. Traffic investigations team is on scene to investigate the collisions. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call SFPD.

Suspect identity will not be released until he is booked into SF County Jail.
