SFPD Make Arrest in Bomb Threat Hoax

On May 7, 2014, at 11:05 a.m., San Francisco Police responded to a report of a suspicious device at the Art Institute located on the1100 block of Market Street. Officers were subsequently directed by security to a suspicious device consisting of a timer and threatening note taped to a locker on the 6th floor of the Culinary Academy. The college was evacuated and traffic was shut down for several hours in both directions on Market Street. The SFPD Explosive Ordinance Unit responded to the scene and determined that the device did not pose a threat.

Special Investigations Division investigators responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. The investigation led to the identity and arrest of a suspect, Jesus Ivan Yerena, a 19 year old resident of San Francisco, who was cited and released for a misdemeanor offense of placing a false or facsimile bomb.
