SFPD Arrests Suspect in Bizarre Burglary

On June 1, 2015 approximately 5:18 am, San Francisco Police officers responded to the 1600 block of Howard Street on a call of a burglary investigation at a car dealership. When officers arrived they found that windows on the front of the dealership had been smashed and cars had been moved around the showroom floor. An unknown suspect had broken into the dealership and, after breaking into a “lock box,” the suspect located car keys and attempted to steal a vehicle. It appeared that the suspect attempted to take one vehicle but his efforts were unsuccessful. He then stole another car, driving it through the side window onto the street and then fleeing the area.

At approximately 5:23 am, Central Station Police officers responded to a call of an injury collision Hit and Run at Mason and Post Streets, involving a new BMW. That suspect fled the scene after crashing into a parked car where an occupant was sleeping. The male occupant of the parked car was not seriously injured. The suspect vehicle was left at the scene and towed for evidence.

Later on in the morning, at approximately 6:30am, a Southern Station Police officer responded to a domestic dispute between a male and a female on the 200 block of 7th Street. The officer arrived and spoke with the male subject. Through the course of his preliminary investigation, the officer developed information linking the male to the earlier burglary and auto theft investigation and the hit and run collision at Mason and Post Streets.

Taken into custody was Peter Derouen, male, a San Francisco resident. He was charged with burglary, two counts of auto theft, attempted auto theft, felony hit and run, felony vandalism, driving on suspended license, possession of a master vehicle key, possession of stolen property and a traffic warrant.
