SFPD Officers Consistent Vigilance Led to the Arrest of an Armed Suspect 24-120

On Monday, October 7th, 2024, at approximately 7:31 a.m., San Francisco Police Officers were patrolling the area of Mission and Julia Streets when they observed a suspect committing vehicle code violations while on a bicycle.

Officers maintained a visual of the suspect and attempted to affect a traffic stop. Officers gave commands to the suspect to stop and dismount the bicycle which the suspect ignored and fled from police. Officers eventually were able to detain the suspect, who failed to comply to officers’ demands and resisted arrest.

During the investigation, officers later located a loaded firearm in the suspect's possession which was seized. It was determined that the firearm was stolen. 

The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was medically evaluated.

Officers developed probable cause to arrest 29-year-old Guillermo Ybarra from Belmont, CA.

Ybarra was booked into San Francisco County Jail for the following charges: to carry a concealed firearm- 25400 (a)(1) PC, carries a concealed firearm on person- 25400(a)(2) PC, two counts of carrying a loaded firearm- 25850(a) PC, having a controlled substance while armed- 11370.1 HS, felon in possession of ammunition- 30305(a)(1) PC, possession of drug paraphernalia- 11364(a) HS, resisting arrest- 148(a)(1) PC, running a stop sign- 22450(a) CVC, possession of sedatives without prescription- 11375(b)(2) HS, a vehicle shall only be driven only in direction designated- 21657 CVC, unsafe lane changes- 22107, and five active and outstanding warrants out of San Mateo County.
