SFPD Officer Joins Two Siblings As A Newly Appointed Sergeant 17-183

The San Francisco Police Department has a robust history of traditions that include members who followed a parent into a career in law enforcement. Although many members have a brother or sister in the Department, it is rare for multiple siblings to hold the same rank at the same time. On Wednesday, November 29, 2017 the San Francisco Police Department welcomed the newest O’Connor to the rank of Sergeant. Sgt. Bridget O’Connor will join her brothers Sgt. Brendan O’Connor and Sgt. Timothy O’Connor as an SFPD Sergeant. The O’Connors are also the children of retired SFPD Inspector Sergeant Donald O’Connor. Sgt. Donald O’Connor was born and raised in San Francisco and joined the SFPD in March of 1971. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1985. Donald was assigned to Southern Station for 14 years and worked as a foot beat officer on 6th Street and Market Street. Donald also worked in Sex Crimes for roughly 12 years before his retirement in January , 2003. Donald began working in the SFPD Background Division in September of 2004 and is still currently employed. Sgt. Timothy O’Connor graduated in the 209th academy class and trained at Mission Station. He completed probation at Northern Station and was assigned to Southern Station. Tim was promoted to Sergeant in August , 2013, and was later assigned to Bayview, Northern and Mission Stations. Tim is a graduate from Cal Poly Polytechnic University and is currently a Sergeant for the Field Training Office at the Academy. Sgt. Brendan O’Connor also graduated in the 209th academy class and trained at Southern Station. He completed his probation at Mission Station and was assigned to Central Station. Brendan was a member of the Tactical Team from 2009-2014. He was promoted to Sergeant in August of 2014. Brendan worked as Sergeant at Southern Station and is currently assigned to the Internal Affairs Division. He is a graduate of San Diego State University. Sgt. Bridget O’Connor graduated in the 234th academy class. Bridget trained at Tenderloin Station, completed her probation at Central Station and was assigned to Northern Station. She became a Field Training Officer in February 2016. Like her brother Brendan, Bridget also graduated from San Diego State University and is currently assigned to Internal Affairs Division. “The O’Connors are truly a family of first responders,” said San Francisco Police Chief William Scott. “Their family has dedicated themselves to the well-being of all San Francisco families.
