SFPD Officer Critically Injured By Fleeing Suspect 17-162

On Wednesday, October 18th, 2017 at approximately 12:21 PM, officers from Tenderloin Station were conducting a firearms violation investigation. Officers observed a suspect in a vehicle they believed was in possession of a firearm. It appears the suspect became aware of the officers’ presence and fled in the vehicle.

As the suspect attempted to elude apprehension, the suspect vehicle struck an officer on a bicycle beat on the mid-block of Turk Street between Van Ness Avenue and Franklin Street.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene and the officer was transported to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. The officer has been with the department for four years and is assigned to Tenderloin Station. He is out of surgery and in the intensive care unit.

The vehicle was located unoccupied. The suspect was taken into custody on the 500 block of Ellis Street in San Francisco at approximately 3:30 this afternoon.

This is active and ongoing investigation. Although an arrest has been made in this incident, SFPD investigators are asking anyone with information to please contact the SFPD Anonymous Tip Line at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the beginning of the message.
