On Sunday, January 5, 2020, at approximately 5:07 PM, a Bayview police sergeant on routine patrol in the area of Barneveld and McKinnon Avenues observed several vehicles participating in illegal sideshow activity with multiple onlookers. While awaiting backup the sergeant heard several gunshots and saw the crowd rapidly dispersing in response. Officers collected several shell casings in the intersection.
Believing that the two incidents were related, investigators from the SFPD Crime Gun Investigations Center took over the investigation, which led to the identification of a suspect. On Friday, January 30, 2020 police officers arrested 21-year-old San Francisco resident Victor Navarro-Flores in connection with both shooting incidents. Navarro-Flores was booked at San Francisco County Jail on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm and probation violation. A booking photo of Navarro-Flores accompanies this news release.
Sideshows are violent and disruptive illegal events that are detrimental to community safety and neighborhood quality of life. SFPD is partnering with fellow Bay Area law enforcement agencies and increasing staffing dedicated to enforcement against illegal sideshows. SFPD will continue issuing citations, making arrests, towing vehicles and collecting evidence against those who participate in such activities.
