SFPD Make Arrest in Telegraph Hill Robbery/Assault

On Saturday, January 12, 2013 at approximately 8:00 PM, the victim, a 26-year-old female, was entering her residence on Alta Terrace when the male suspect forced his way in behind her. He forced her to the floor and threatened to kill her. The suspect demanded the victim’s money and belongings and then assaulted her. The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) received a 911 call regarding a well-being check of the victim. Officers from Central Police Station arrived on the scene and the suspect fled by jumping off of the balcony. Officers set up a perimeter and, with assistance from a California Highway Patrol (CHP) helicopter, they located and apprehended the suspect.

The suspect, Jovan Jones, 25, of Marin City was booked into SF County Jail on 13 felony charges, including burglary, robbery, threats, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and rape, and one misdemeanor charge or resisting/delaying a police officer. This appears to be an isolated incident and the investigation into this incident continues. This arrest was the result of the coordinated efforts by members of the SFPD patrol division, the Special Victims Unit, and Crime Scene Investigators. The quick response by members of Central Police Station, who established a perimeter and coordinated a search with the CHP helicopter, led to Jones' apprehension in a back yard off of Green Street at approximately 9:20 PM.
