SFPD Crisis Negotiators Work to Take Suicidal Man With Gun Into Custody

On Saturday, September 24, 2016 San Francisco Police Department responded to a person in crisis near the Civic Center Plaza. The subject stated that he was armed with a firearm and wanted the police to shoot him. Dispatchers from the Department of Emergency Management coordinated the response of units from across the city, including members of the Specialized Operations Group. The Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team arrived on scene and continued dialogue with the subject. After an approximately seven hour standoff, the subject surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. The subject was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. Officers located a firearm which was ultimately determined to be an air-soft pistol.
