San Francisco Police Make Arrest in Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Investigation 20-146

In early November 2020 the SFPD Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit was made aware of an individual who was inappropriately contacting underage members of a Chinatown based dance group.

The Director of the dance group and numerous parents reported that an individual, later identified as Joven Agapito, a 45-year-old resident of Rodeo, had been filming the dance group’s practices and public performances since 2018. It was learned that Agapito did not have any personal or familiar connections to anyone at the dance group. Agapito would post his video recordings of the dance group on a YouTube channel that he created. It was later discovered that in late 2020, Agapito had sent several of the dance group members inappropriate messages on social media. In some of the messages Agapito indicated that he wanted to be in a relationship with some of the underage members.

The SFPD ICAC Unit took over the investigation. During the investigation it was determined that Agapito was attempting to meet one of the underage minors for sexual contact.

On November 23, 2020 Agapito was taken into custody by SFPD Investigators when he attempted to meet with and have sexual contact with the child in San Francisco.

Agapito was arrested and charged with going to an arranged meeting with a minor for sexual contact, communicating with a minor to engage in sexual act (2 counts), arranging a meeting with a minor for sexual contact (2 counts), annoy or molest a minor (2 counts).

The case was later refiled by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

As of the date of this news release, Agapito remains in custody.

While an arrest has been made in this investigation, anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.
