Officer Involved Shooting on the 900 Block of De Haro Street

On April 17, 2013 at approximately 9:40 P.M., the San Francisco Police responded to a family dispute and stabbing on the 900 block of De Haro Street. The suspect had called 911 and informed them he had just stabbed his brother-in-law. A second male voice was heard in the background pleading for help. 

Within one minute, officers arrived on the scene. As the officers approached the premise, the male suspect emerged from a secondary doorway a few feet south from where the initial victim was later located. The suspect was armed with a weapon (later determined to be a hammer) and had it raised as he advanced towards officers. Officers gave orders to drop the weapon. The suspect continued to advance towards officers, ignoring all commands. Fearing for their safety, one officer discharged their weapon and struck the suspect. The suspect was taken to SFGH where he died of his injuries.

The male victim was also taken to SFGH where he is being treated with serious but non-life threatening injuries and is cooperating with investigators.

This incident remains under investigation and is being investigated by the SF District Attorney’s Office, Office of Citizen Complaints, SFPD Internal Affairs Criminal, Administrative Divisions and the Homicide Detail.

Officers involved are placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
