Officer Injured by Gunfire in the Mission District

At approximately 2:45 PM today, San Francisco Police officers in the Mission Districtwere dispatched to a malicious mischief call on the 1300 block of Florida Street.Officers located a vehicle matching the description involved in the call for service andstopped the vehicle. The officers attempted to make contact with the occupant in thevehicle. While the driver officer was approaching the vehicle, the vehicle began toback up towards the officers. The officer on the passenger side fired several rounds atthe vehicle shattering the glass fearing for his and his partner’s lives. The vehicle fledthe area. The officer found his partner on the driver’s side of the vehicle suffering froma gunshot wound to the left shoulder. The San Francisco Fire Department arrived onscene, rendered aid and the officer was taken to San Francisco General Hospital. Theofficer is 28 years old and has been in the Department for six years. He is expected tosurvive from his injuries. The suspect vehicle was located unoccupied in Daly City.San Francisco Police and a number of agencies from the area assisted in a search ofthe area for the suspect. The suspect was not located in the search. We want tothank the San Francisco Fire Department, San Francisco General Hospital forproviding medical care to the officer.
