Hit & Run Arrest

On March 29, 2017 at 3:08 PM a pedestrian was crossing mid-block on Columbus Avenue between Union and Filbert Streets. A vehicle traveling northbound on Columbus Avenue struck the pedestrian. The 86 year old pedestrian was transported with life threatening injuries to San Francisco General Hospital. Later that evening a person called SFPD and the subsequent investigation confirmed that the person who was driving the vehicle was John Weiper of Rohnert Park. On April 17, 2017 Weiper surrendered to the Traffic Collision Investigation Unit and was booked for felony hit and run and felony reckless driving. The booking photo of Weiper accompanies this news release. The pedestrian is currently recovering from her injuries in a medical facility. This incident is still an ongoing investigation.
