Off Duty SFPD Officer Arrested for Hit and Run Involving Serious Injuries

On Sunday, November 29, 2015 at approximately 2:20AM, San Francisco Police responded to a report of a hit and run collision with injuries at Broadway and Montgomery Street. Upon arrival, the officers found two pedestrians who had been struck by a motor vehicle. The vehicle, a Dodge Charger, was left at the scene, but the driver had fled. The pedestrians were apparently crossing Broadway when they were struck by the vehicle which had been traveling westbound. The pedestrians, both males in their 40’s, were transported to a local hospital where both remain hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Through the course of an investigation, SFPD investigators identified the driver as Christopher Kohrs, age 38, of San Francisco. Kohrs is the registered owner of the vehicle left at the scene. He is a 7 year veteran with the SFPD and was placed under arrest after being interviewed by Internal Affairs investigators. Kohrs, who had surrendered himself at the Police Headquarters Building, was later booked into San Francisco County Jail on two counts of felony hit and run. Due to pending identification matters, no booking photo will be released at this time. Kohrs is currently on leave due to an unrelated medical condition. If he becomes eligible to return to duty, he would then be placed on suspension.

[Update 12/16/15 - booking photo has been released. The investigation is complete and has been forwarded to the District Attorney.]

Although an arrest has been made, this is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information on this collision is asked to call the Anonymous Tip Line at (415) 575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
