San Francisco Police Arrest Suspects in Armed Robbery and Attempted Homicide 20-121

On Thursday, October 22, 2020, at approximately 2:57 PM, Tenderloin Station officers responded to the area of Turk and Leavenworth Streets for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and met with a 24-year-old male, who stated he was the victim of an armed robbery.

The victim was approached by five suspects on the corner of Turk and Leavenworth Streets. One of the suspects pointed a firearm at the victim and demanded for the victim’s wallet. The suspect was able to obtain the victim’s wallet after a struggle ensued between the suspects and the victim. The suspects fled from the scene on foot. While the victim chased after the suspects, a male juvenile suspect discharged a firearm towards the victim. The victim was not injured. However, an occupied vehicle was damaged by the gunfire, the driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Arriving officers were directed into the Civic Center BART Station, where they detained three subjects matching descriptions provided by the victim. The investigation determined that the three were involved in the incident. The suspects were identified as 38-year-old Craig Smith of Oakland, a 15-year-old male, and a 14-year-old male both from Oakland.

Smith was booked at San Francisco County Jail on charges of attempted homicide (N/W 664/187 PC), robbery (N/W 211 PC), assault with a firearm (N/W 245(b) PC), conspiracy (N/W 182(a) PC), possession of stolen property (N/W 496(a) PC), negligent discharge of a firearm (N/W 246.3(a) PC), and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor (272 PC). The 15-year-old juvenile was booked at the Youth Guidance Center on charges of attempted homicide (N/W 664/187 PC), robbery (N/W 211 PC), assault with a deadly weapon (N/W 245(a)(2) PC), conspiracy (N/W 182(a) PC), and crime committed by a minor (602 W&I). The 14-year-old juvenile was booked at the Youth Guidance Center on charges of attempted homicide (N/W 664/187 PC), robbery (N/W 211 PC), assault with a firearm (N/W 245(b) PC), conspiracy (N/W 182(a) PC), negligent discharge of a firearm (N/W 246.3(a) PC), and crime committed by a minor (602 W&I).
