SFPD, Community Partners Kick-Off Annual Toy Giveaway With Holiday Party for San Francisco Children 19-144
In collaboration with Mayor London N. Breed, the San Francisco Housing Authority, the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department and numerous public and private partners, the San Francisco Police Department has gathered and will distribute thousands of toys to children this holiday season.
The annual toy giveaway will kick-off with a free holiday party for boys and girls ages 12 years and younger at the Potrero Hill Recreation Center (801 Arkansas Street) on Friday December 13th 2019 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM. The celebration will include free snacks and surprises along with several special guests.
“Every young person in San Francisco should experience the joy of receiving a gift during the holiday season,” said Mayor Breed. “Thanks to the generous contributions from residents, private partners, community organizations, thousands of kids will be able to unwrap a new toy this year.”
SFPD thanks Walgreens for participating in the toy drive for a fifth year by enabling 70 San Francisco Walgreens stores to serve as toy drop-off centers. Donations are still being accepted at Walgreens stores through Friday, December 20th.
In addition, we thank Another Planet Entertainment, which organized toy drives at Bill Graham Auditorium to augment SFPD’s efforts, and the Golden State Warriors, which also contributed gifts this year.
“The men and women of SFPD are incredibly proud and excited to know that we are helping to make the holidays happier for San Francisco families,” said Police Chief William Scott. “Through the generosity of San Franciscans and our collaboration with city and community partners, we’re able to put smiles on the faces of many children this holiday season.”
Police officers will distribute toys to youth Wednesday, December 18th through Tuesday, December 24th.
“Every year, the San Francisco Police Department gets the hard work done so that thousands of San Francisco low income families have the opportunity to celebrate during the holiday season,” said Joaquín Torres, President of the San Francisco Housing Authority Commission. “Together with the Mayor’s Office, Recreation and Parks, APRI, resident leaders, and service connectors, we are a proud partner in this loving collaboration that ensures this season of giving puts joy in families’ homes and smiles on the faces of our youth.”
“We are so proud to host the annual toy giveaway kickoff party at our recently renovated Potrero Hill Rec Center and to work alongside our partners to make the season special for all city kids regardless of income,” said San Francisco Recreation and Park Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg. “We are grateful to the San Francisco Police Department for its commitment to families in need.”
The San Francisco Police Department thanks all of our community partners who contributed to our annual toy drive and participated in our local events this year. We wish everyone in our city a safe and happy holiday season.
