During the month of November, the San Francisco Police Department investigated a series of violent street robberies throughout the City, in which the victims were sprayed in the face with caustic pepper spray, assaulted, and robbed.
In light of the violent nature of these robberies and the number of victims, the Department made the capture of these suspects one of its highest priorities. An ongoing investigation and surveillance by the Department’s Violence Reduction Team, Station plainclothes units, and the Criminal Investigations Unit, resulted in the arrest of five suspects on Saturday, November, 13, 2010. The arrests occurred immediately following a robbery on 20th Street, between Dolores and Guerrero. The suspects committing these robberies are from the Mission and Western addition neighborhoods and are all associated.
Investigative leads resulted in the identification of a sixth suspect, Troy Carpenter, 18 year old male, and a San Francisco resident. A search warrant was served on his residence on November 26, 2010, and he was arrested on the street later that day. While awaiting booking, Carpenter made a daring escape from Northern Police Station and fled into the Western Addition. That night, San Francisco Police obtained an arrest warrant for Carpenter, for four counts of Robbery, Escape, and Possession of Crack Cocaine for sale; all felonies punishable by state prison. The Superior Court Judge set his bail at one half million dollars.
The San Francisco Police Department conducted an extensive manhunt that led officers to Elk Grove, California on November, 29, 2010. Carpenter was arrested in a vehicle, as it drove away from a residence. Elk Grove Police Department assisted with the arrest. Carpenter was transported back to San Francisco, and booked into county jail.
Further investigation resulted in Carpenter being charged in a sixth robbery. He is being held in county jail, with a $505,000.00 bail, and his first court appearance is scheduled for December 7th.
