SFPD Response to the Dismissal of Cases and the New Video Allegation (11-056)

The San Francisco Police Department has been advised that cases subject to the alleged misconduct in the videos are being dismissed by the District Attorney’s Office. Our understanding is these cases have the ability to be re-filed in court based on the outcome of the investigation(s).

All allegations raised by the Public, including those raised by the Public Defender’s Office will be investigated by the Internal Affairs Division to determine if there is any misconduct of any officer.

The case involving the newly released video is nearly a year old and has already been investigated through the appropriate channels (Office of Citizen Complaints) and the findings have been provided to the Police Department for action.

We want to emphasize that the men and women of the San Francisco Police Department are of the highest character.  That said, the officers in these videos have the same rights as any other citizen.  They are assumed innocent until proven guilty, and we are operating under that assumption.

If it is determined through the investigation that any officer is proven to be dishonest, in any way, they will be disciplined.  This discipline will be swift and severe up to and including termination from the Police Department.

The hardworking men and women of the San Francisco Police Department will not tolerate dishonesty within their ranks.  There is no place in this Department for dishonest Cops
