SFPD Arrest Two Suspects in Two Separate Strong Arm Robberies of Smart Phones
San Francisco police arrested two suspects on Thursday night, involving two separate smart phone strong arm robberies. Taken into custody were Edwin Tobie, 19, and Ernest Evans, 20, both San Francisco residents. Both were booked into San Francisco County Jail on robbery, conspiracy, possession of stolen property and other related charges.
On April 4th at approximately 10:12 A.M. a victim was walking towards Glen Park Bart in the area of Baden and Monterey Streets. The suspect ran up behind the victim and forcibly grabbed the smart phone. The suspect then ran into a waiting maroon colored vehicle and fled the area. In this case the victim was able to obtain a partial license plate of the suspect vehicle.
In the second incident, on the same day at approximately 4:19 P.M., a second victim was walking in the area of Folsom Street and The Embarcadero when a suspect walked up to the victim and forcibly grabbed the smart phone. The suspect ran into a similarly described vehicle in the first incident and fled the area. The victim was also able to obtain a partial license plate of the suspect vehicle.
At approximately 6:20 P.M. Officers from the Tenderloin Police Station located the vehicle matching the description involved in the robberies at McAllister and Hyde Streets. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects fled. After a brief vehicle pursuit, both suspects are apprehended at the termination point of the pursuit, after the vehicle crashed at Hermann and Steiner Streets. No one was injured in any of the incidents.
Evidence related to the strong arm robberies were recovered in the vehicle. Booking photos for both Tobie and Evans are attached to this press release.
