Arrest Made in Series of Assaults Against Asian Women (17-132)
In August 2017, San Francisco Police Officers from Bayview Station began an investigation into a series of brutal assaults occurring in the areas of San Bruno and Silver Avenues, San Bruno and Arleta Avenues, and San Bruno and Egbert Avenues. In one incident, the victim’s nose was fractured and had a large laceration which required seven sutures. In another incident, the victim’s tooth was broken.
The investigation led to the identity of the suspect, Agustin Garcia, a 19 year old resident of San Francisco, who resides in the vicinity of the attacks. After an identification was made, it was discovered that Garcia was already in custody for three other similar assaults that occurred in the Ingleside District around the area of San Bruno and Wilde Avenues. All of Garcia’s victims were Asian females, with every attack made unprovoked. The investigation thus far has also determined several of the victims were followed off MUNI by Garcia.
Investigators arrested Garcia on felony charges of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, battery with serious injuries, terrorist threats, attempted kidnapping, and a hate crime allegation. A booking photo of Garcia accompanies this news release.
Investigators believe Garcia has committed more assaults that have not been reported to police. Some victims reported that they had seen him on several other occasions on MUNI coaches prior to the unprovoked attacks. Additionally, Garcia was wearing sunglasses during some of the assaults.
