The second anniversary Officer Bryan Tuvera memorial vigil will he held on Tuesday, December 23, at Taraval Police Station Community Room, 2345-24th Avenue, from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
Officer Tuvera was shot the night of December 22, 2006 by a suspect wanted on a felony warrant. When the suspect attempted to flee on foot, officers initiated a foot pursuit. The suspect broke into the side door of a residence and went into the garage. When officers moved to take the suspect into custody, he opened fire, striking Officer Turvera. A second officer returned fire, hitting the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Despite valiant efforts by San Francisco General Hospital paramedics and medical staff, Officer Tuvera succumbed to his injuries early the next morning. He was 28.
Officer Tuvera entered the San Francisco Police Department on July 1, 2002.
