DUI Checkpoint Saturday

The San Francisco Police Department and the California Highway Patrol will conduct a Sobriety and Drivers License Checkpoint Saturday, December 23, starting at 7:00 P.M. The location will be disclosed to the media two hours prior to the commencement of the checkpoint.

The checkpoint is part of the SFPD's annual Holiday traffic safety enforcement. The SFPD wants everyone to enjoy their holiday celebration but cautions the public about the consequences of DUI. Celebrants are encouraged to take public transportation or to have a designated driver for the holiday season.

This operation is part of the statewide Safe and Sober/AVOID Program, which is aimed at reducing the number of alcohol-related injuries from traffic collisions, increasing the number of arrests for driving under the influence, and educating the motoring public regarding the dangers of driving under the influence. The slogan for this year's operation is DRUNK DRIVING: OVER THE LIMIT – UNDER ARREST. Officers will also use this opportunity to enforce California's mandatory seat belt and child safety seat laws.

Funding for this program has been provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
