The San Francisco Police Department Traffic Division AVOID Program kickoff press conference will take place Friday, December 12, at the Northern Police Station Community Room, 1125 Fillmore Street, at 10:00 A.M. Police Chief Heather Fong and Assistant Chief James Lynch will be present at the kickoff.
The press conference will announce the start of the winter DUI AVOID program featuring Winter Checkpoint efforts, and the Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911 and the Drink Don't Drive public awareness campaigns. The Police Department, in partnership with the Department of Public Health, will be distributing If You Drink Don't Drive posters that illustrate the cost comparison between taking a taxi when intoxicated and the cost of all the expenses involved in a DUI arrest. California Highway Patrol area commanders will also be participating in the press conference.
The press conference will also announce the latest upcoming DUI checkpoint operation, which will begin on weekends starting on December 20 and continuing through January 3.
The AVOID Program is funded by the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Agency (NHTSA).
