To emphasize responsible drinking and the kick-off of California’s Drunk and Drugged Driving (3D) Prevention Month, officers will be serving non-alcoholic “COPtails” to lunch patrons at the restaurant. This event will also include the announcement of $4.7 million in grants for increased saturation patrols and sobriety checks that will take place in the region throughout December and January.

Statewide, 1,445 people were killed and 31,337 injured in alcohol-related crashes in 2003, compared with 1,416 fatalities and 32,041 injuries in 2002. In San Francisco, 17 people were killed and 552 injured in alcohol-related crashes in 2003. These figures have prompted the state to increase funding toward DUI enforcement.
