The San Francisco Police Department’s participation in this year’s Special Olympics begins with a Special Olympics conference opening ceremony today, November 21, beginning at 9:00 A.M in the St. Francis Hotel Grand Ballroom. The conference continues until Sunday, November 23 at the St. Francis. There are about 850 officers from all over the world attending. A host dinner, featuring comedian Michael Pritchard, is also this evening, November 21, beginning at 7:00 P.M. at the Design Center Galleria, 101 Henry Adams.
On Sunday, November 23, there will be a trial Torch Run starting at 8:30 A.M., beginning at the east parking lot of Crissy Field. The run will proceed to Jefferson and Hyde streets, where the Cable Car Pull will begin at about 9:30 A.M. and continue to 1:00 P.M. In this event, officers compete with each other to see what team can pull a real cable car the fastest. All donations raised all go to Special Olympics.
The closing ceremony awards banquet is also Sunday, November 23, at 7:00 P.M. in the St. Francis Hotel Grand Ball Room.
