On Tuesday, November 18 at 7:41 P. M. officers were called to an apartment in the 700 block of Commercial St. on a report of a missing adult with mental history. Officers responded to that location two times. Both times they were unable to locate the suspect because he had already left the scène. The officers decided to stay in the area. A short time later they were advised the suspect had returned to the apartment. Officers arrived at the apartment and found the suspect, a 32-year-old Asian male, had barricaded himself in the apartment. Officers tried to gain entry into the apartment. Officers heard the clicking sound of a gas-stove igniter and smelled gas coming from the apartment. Due to these circumstances the officers forced entry into the apartment. The suspect, armed with a pair of scissors, was able to climb out a window onto a fire escape. The suspect, who was yelling and screaming, made several motions as to jump from the fire escape. Officers yelled out to the suspect in English and Cantonese to drop the scissors. Officers called for a “less than lethal” unit to respond. The suspect tried to stab one of the officers and it was then an officer shot the suspect once hitting him in the abdomen. The suspect was taken to S. F. G. H. where he was in serious but stable condition.
