Subject:         SERIAL RAPIST ARRESTED THROUGH DNA EVIDENCE

On October 22, San Francisco police arrested a serial rapist whose history of sexual attacks on San Francisco prostitutes goes back to 1999.  San Francisco police, working in conjunction with Mountain View officers, took Barney Wong, 45, of Mountain View, into custody without incident. He remains in custody in Mountain View on a one million dollar bail

The SFPD Forensics Division’s cold hit program was, through DNA evidence, able to identify Wong as the suspect in at least five sexual assaults, kidnappings and robberies in San Francisco, the most recent of which occurred in October 2002.  In all of these incidents, Wong used both a gun and a knife in the perpetration of his acts.
