Steven Redd, 42, a San Francisco police officer, was arrested today, October 15, on sexual assault charges stemming from an incident that occurred in San Francisco on October 1, 2003. As soon as the San Francisco Police Department became aware of the incident, it initiated an immediate and diligent investigation. The SFPD’s Sexual Assault Unit, working closely with the District Attorney’s Office, led to the DA’s Office issuing an arrest warrant signed by the Honorable Judge Leonard Louie that resulted in Redd’s surrendering voluntarily. Redd was suspended from his duties upon his arrest.
Redd, an eight-year veteran, was on duty when the sexual assault occurred. He has been booked on five felony charges: Four counts of Section 243.4(a) Penal Code, sexual battery, a felony; and one count of 289(a)(1) PC, felony penetration by foreign object, a felony. Bail has been set at $300,000.00
