Members of the San Francisco Police Department will be participating in Buzz the Fuzz on Thursday, September 27, at Justin Herman Plaza at the foot of Market Street
from 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.
Buzz the Fuzz is an annual fund-raising event in which law enforcement personnel have their heads shaved to raise funds for children with cancer. The event originated in Australia in 1994 when local officers visiting children's cancer wards learned that the children were self-conscious about their shaved heads due to chemotherapy treatments. To show sympathy and solidarity, the officers shaved their own heads. The officers then decided that they could raise funds for children cancer victims and instituted the Buzz the Buzz event by gathering sponsors. Their efforts resulted in Buzz the Fuzz events hosted by law enforcement agencies all around the world.
